About the coalition of governments

Following over a decade of research and analysis, global public investment has moved from being a concept for discussion to being a policy proposition ready for implementation.

Leaders have come together in the Coalition of Governments and International Organisations for Global Public Investment, a political and technical platform to advance GPI. Regular convenings will take place across 2026 and 2027. Additional countries are welcome to join the Coalition.

The governments are working with civil society and international institutions to pilot and scale a framework for global public investment, through regional dialogues, policy research, and pilot projects, and identify practical mechanisms to enable the realisation of GPI.

The Coalition was launched in July 2025 in Sevilla at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development as one of the flagship initiatives of the Sevilla Platform for Action.

Since its creation, the Coalition of Governments on Global Public Investment (GPI) has made steady and meaningful progress. Several of the member governments are already integrating GPI into their diplomacy harnessing their networks to foster cooperation regionally and globally. A long-term work programme and governance framework are being developed, alongside initial pilot initiatives and regional dialogues to help elaborate mechanisms to put GPI principles into practice. The Coalition continues to expand its membership and strengthen engagement with governments and institutions across multiple regions.

The pioneers who are coming together in the Coalition of Governments on Global Public Investment (GPI), are shaping the future of international cooperation and global public finance, and helping to renew and remake multilateralism. The approach they are developing together will not only be fairer than approaches inherited from the last century, ensuring all countries have a voice and a stake; it will also be much more effective, helping to transform lives across the world.
